About
Welcome to the Mathhiker.com Website. This site is to be a fun, interesting and a learning site. Each day of the week will feature Mathematics from a different age group or a different category in a rough “comic book” layout. Along the way you will have some Mathhiker guides either from the Hedron family, or the old couple, Murby and Tess, that have been hiking the Math trail for centuries. The category and guides for each day are below, but realize that there is no age limit. Each day any age person, 4 to 104, could find something useful.
Monday: Elementary age students, roughly from grades one to six. Your guides will be the two youngest of the Hedron family, Hexa, a boy about 9 years old, and Octa, a girl about 11 years old. They usually will be joined by their pet robot dog, Tetra.
Tuesday: Middle school age students, roughly from grades seven to nine. Your guides will be the two oldest of the Hedron family, Dodeca, a girl about 12 years old, and Icosa, a boy, about 14 years old. Of course, Tetra, the robot dog, will join them as well.
Wednesday to Sunday, your guides will be Murby and Tess who are “ageless” and have been hiking throughout the generations and have witnessed many of the great and fun Mathematical breakthroughs and puzzles and games from history. The categories for each day are as follows:
Wednesday: Secondary school age students, roughly grades ten to twelve.
Thursday: A topic from the history of mathematics. Get to know some of the movers and shakers from the past. See how Math was used throughout the generations.
Friday: “Why do we have to learn this anyway?” This day will attempt to answer this question, as we take examples of the Math in these grades, and show who is using the Math and how are they using it.
Saturday: A weekly Math trick or shortcut, and why it works. Become a wizard with numbers!
Sunday: A Math puzzle or a Math game, or both. Let’s have some fun and see a new game, or maybe an analysis of an old game. Each week the answers to the Sunday puzzles from the week before will be given, so you have a week to try to work out an answer.
Some weeks will be “Theme Weeks”, where we take a certain topic and try to run it through all of the days. Some topics could include: fractals, game theory, tessellations, arrays, art, music, sports, and so on.
Other sections to the Website include a sign in site to register. This whole site, is, and always will be, absolutely FREE. However, I would like to know a bit about you, so a painless sign-in page is included. Another page will be the download page. These FREE downloads will contain small booklets, posters, Math art work, cut-outs, and any other things that I think of. In order to get these FREE downloads though, I will require you to be registered user. Finally, the daily comic page where the daily Math information is shown, and a video page where a related video link from my YouTube videos (search minkusbc) will be shown.
So that’s it!! I am really looking forward to helping the guides show you a glimpse of this wonderful world of Mathematics. Just remember, that topics from all the age groups can help any age person. So if your 7 or 47 or 107, you may find something useful on any or all of the seven days.
